 May 17, 2011,Billie Jean King announces the release of “Let’s Get Steppin! Saving the Next Generation…Pedometer Walking. Walking daily with the aid of a pedometer since 2005; King recognized the difference that it made in motivating her to get up and get moving. In spite of her current overweight condition, she credits pedometer walking and the alternative food choices that she’s implemented with keeping her free of the obesity-related diseases thus far. “I tussled with the thought of holding off publishing this book until I’d attained my desired weight goal, you know… after the victory. Then, I was reminded that it’s during the struggles of life is when encouragement, comfort, and strength is needed the most",stated King.
 
Inspired by the “Big Challenge” series that aired in 2007 on kids and obesity, and the Surgeon General’s report that advocates obesity is more prevalent and pervasive among Blacks and Hispanics; King presented a pedometer challenge to her granddaughter in 2008. Known for her innovative and creative thinking, she concluded that her personal experience testimony along with her granddaughter’s pedometer challenge results needed to be shared. King shares frankly concerning her and her family’s battle with Obesity and the associated complications as well.
 
From her research, she determined that there were several books in print advocating pedometer walking. “I came away with the notion that a book needed to written promoting the effectiveness of the pedometer targeting the segment of America where obesity is influenced the most. It needed to be relevant and identifiable to a grandmother, Big Mama, uncle, aunt ,cousin and children. The pedometer is the next best gadget since the stop watch..."says King.

        §  Attempting to reach her daily goal of 12k steps became additive.            
        §  The pedometer was viewed more a game than a tracking tool.
   
King shares frankly concerning her and her families  battle with obesity and the associated complications of Type II diabetics, heart disease, sleep apnea, kidney failure, and hypertension to name a few. As a writer, author, she tells her irrefutable testimony of how she attributes the aid of pedometer walking and alternative food selections to her being able to ward off Type II Diabetes thus far.
